Teebs - Untitled 09

http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=165452290626114351

not really sure where this came from, but if you've been up on the beat scene for the last three years Teebs has been a familiar name. with guest sets on Mary Anne Hobbes (i think he was the first big name to spin Baths' stuff into his sets) and seen billed alongside Take and FlyLo through the last year it seems fairly certain that Teebs rumored album will be out before the new year, and it will be fucking awesome. this album has a nice dreamy element to it alongside the familiar hip-hop beat, with plenty of flavor to fill it out.

welcome to my wonderland, untitled

Bassnectar - Underground Communication (2007)

classic Bassnectar album. a sweet mix of breakbeats, jungle, hip-hop, and chilled out ambiance. some of it has a dubstep tinge to it, some of it sounds like BreakBeat Kaos drum and bass. give it a listen, it's worth it.

bomb the blocks, don't stop the hustle

Pretty Lights - Making Up a Changing Mind (2010)

“Making Up A Changing Mind” is a collection of six tracks, produced in January and February of 2010. Stylistically I fuse hip-hop production with elements of electro & dubstep, and combine that with the organic timbres and raw feeling of old school soul & funk, to, hopefully channel a number of feelings that pertain to the concept of the EP… "

i wrote a couple different little blurbs for this but they all just sounded like the descriptions on his website, sooo... yeah. you'll dig this guy if you are into acts like VibesquaD and STS9, he sounds pretty similar to VibesqauD, but with the unique and perfectly placed old school soul vocals and classic vinyl-ripped piano riffs.

i'm loooooosing myyyy mind

he also offers all of his music for donations on his website, which is a super chill move for an artist to make

The One A.M. Radio - A Name Writ in Water [2004]

delicious instrumental electronic album, dreamy vocals floating through a haze of glitchy guitar strums and carefully placed drum beats. great for a morning album, or while smoking a fat joint on a summer afternoon

Magnetic Man - I Need Air (2010)

"A lot has been said about Magnetic Man, the trio made up of dubstep's leading lights Skream, Benga and Artwork. It was Artwork who penned the dubstep anthem 'Red,' a tune so ahead of its time the genre didn't yet have a name. He began to mentor two errant teenagers: Benga, who has released two albums and who co-wrote the club hit 'Night,' and Skream, whose anthem 'Midnight Request Line' took the genre to the nation before his remix of La Roux's 'In For The Kill' sent it worldwide."

this shit's pretty dope if you like skream-esque tracks. wicked shit, especially considering skream just dropped 3 free EP's and an album in 2010 already. this album will drop soon undoubtedly.

wecamewithbrokenteeth - You Bitches Couldn't Even Be Who We Was [2007]

this band is making it into the blog for their expert use of a drum machine in a grindcore band. if you like/d hardcore you may fancy this album just for the awesome drumming, which has gone far,far past the usual double-pedal bullshit.

bitch please, i'm a ninja

Theophilus London - I Want You [2010]

a futuristic release by Theophilus London on The Lovers record label in 2010. this dude is like(hmmm...) kinda like, uhhhh, (hmmm...), he's pretty unique. maybe if [[Zupher Blaqq]] and John Legend had a baby and he was on vocals, and the Dam-Funk and Hudson Mohawke made a child and he laid the beats down. futuristic soul funk electronic music with this guy dropping phat rhymes to some of the tracks, then filling the rest with what I assume is his own singing as well as a whole variety of samples. definitely something worth listening to if you are into Spank Rock, Pase Rock, The Cool Kids, etc.

his collab cd with machinedrum is pretty sick too

A Lily - Wake:Sleep [2006]

this is hands down my favorite ambient album of all time. A Lily provides a dreamy soundtrack to a beautiful summer day. reminiscent of other ambient artists, but unique in his placement of glitchy beats, vocal samples, and bpm's that slow down to 50-60 at some times. it makes for a nostalgic listen, reminding you of days at the beach with your family, children laughing and birds above calling down.

lights shone brighter, my delicate sun is my sparklin' sun

Pendulum - Jungle Sound Gold [2006]

one of my favorite mixtapes of all time, jungle sound gold is one of the seminal records that changed the way I thought about electronic music. the heavy handed album throws down jungle/DnB classics from DJ Fresh, Pendulum, Baron, Dillinja(now 12th Planet), Chase&Status, and Adam F. & TKO. classic new school jungle/breakbeat - definitely give a listen to Masochist and Masochist VIP - that keeps everything going fast and heavy. this is a double album, first disc being a set with an MC, second is collected tracks without an MC and the songs are in full.

give it a try.

once i jumped out of the boat and into the jungle, we cranked up the volume and marched to the beat of our own drummer.

Ochre - Like Dust of the Balance [2009]

ochre's 2009 release. somewhat reminiscent of an earlier era of downtempo music this guy keeps the beats around 80-100 bpm the whole time and kinda sounds like Boards of Canada without and scratchy vinyl sounds. very unique in itself though, as the floating vocals and glitchy sounds of what sounds like original field recordings spice up the tracks in an homage to brain pleasing sounds.

a midsummer's nice dream was good too.

Mount Kimbie - Crooks & Lovers [2010]

best best best best best best chilled out dubstep album of the year. a little bit of mellow 8bit, a little bit of warm scratchy vinyl sounds, some chopped and screwed vocals, and a fuzzy chubby bassline make Mount Kimbie's first LP a must-listen. in the same vein as James Blake, Burial, and Young Lovers, if you are into downtempo dubstep then this shit is for you.

make love, not war

The Orb - Adventures Beyond the Underworld [1991]

this album has my favorite song in the entire world on it: Little Fluffy Clouds.

so you should definitely get it and listen to it.

because i'm a little drunk.

track 1: Little Fluffy Clouds. i love you.

Jimmy Edgar - Tell it to the Heart EP [2010]

Yooo this is J.0duga gonna be contributing to this blog with the best of the numerous releases I listen to being an unemployed DJ/Audiophile. I'll try to keep it interesting hope you like what you find...

Jimmy Edgar is a Detroit-based Electronic music producer and fashion photographer. He has released material on both Merck and Warp Records. For this EP he offers up 3 solid news tracks that further explore the tech-house style he has become known for. He serves them up pretty minimal but with some seriously deep grooves. Check out Seven Mile which is a straight up homage to the old school Detroit house styling’s of Carl Craig and Moodyman (Google them NOW if your uneducated!!). Soul Clap and Sergio Santos contribute the Beantown mix of this track which dirties it up a bit and tweaks it just enough to turn it into a prime dance floor banger. Also check out the title track Tell it to the Heart for some Hip Hop influenced tech-house with some of the dopest synth work I have heard in awhile.
Minimal DEEP grooves

Scuba - Triangulation [2010]

before the heavy hitting wobwob dubstep from the likes of Caspa, Rusko, or Bar9 was making worldwide playlists there were pioneers of dubstep like Skream, Hatcha, & Appleblim who brought the beat into existence. Scuba is one of these pioneers who isn't focusing on making your brain shake as hard as he can from the sine wave smash, but on the mellow undertones in his music that make it a truly amazing compositional album.

ain't no fishes in this scuba dive.

Odd Nosdam - Level Live Wires [2007]

Seeing as this is my first blog entry, I'm going to do a favorite. Now I am not one to simply go out of my way to upload whatever I feel is amusing, I go for the hard shit. The heroin of music. The China White of Life. That being said, this is such a drug. Level Live Wires is something else. It creates the dense atmospherics one would expect from the shoegaze genre, some heavy, down-tempo beats and synths of BoC, and the king of all, random sexy samples.
The Kill Tone trilogy of songs are beyond gorgeous, as Why? even guest stars on "The Kill Tone Two" and my personal favorite the beat distressed plowing of Blasted.
This is what down-tempo is, and should always be.

Your New Addiction.

Eleven Tigers - Cloud are Mountains [2010]

wonderful ambient-ish dubstep album focused on the bassline with a bit of UK garage/two-step knocking. reminiscent of artists like Floating Points, Joy Orbison, or Skream(in slow motion). vocal samples smattered throughout have a haunting sound to them. if nalepa's album i posted yesterday sounded like a digital desert landscape then this album would have to be a mountainous forest with a bunch of low frequency drumpads smattered around amidst the singing of the birds.

birds gettin' all smattered by the drum pads

Nalepa - Flatlands[2009]

a beautiful ambient album from 1320 records. i first heard nalepa from a nosaj thing remix of flatlands, the nominal song from his debut album. a little digging uncovered this gem that plays with low bass wobbles, ambient twinkling, and a hint of mellow glitchy-ness to make for a complete soundscape that's quite pleasing on the ears.

like floating across a digital desert plain

El-p - wereallgoingtoburninhellmegamixx2

supposedly this is an album full of El-p's unfinished and leftover works, but it sounds like something someone carefully handcrafted into one of the best hip-hop beat albums I have ever heard. super-heavy on the drum pads and bass triggers and the best song names on a def-jux album in the last couple years. this kinda sounds like aesop rock's production on felt3, but without all the crappy rapping that was on felt3.

these aren't crepes, they are tortillas

Nubbin - I Can Cast A Spell

a quick adventure through time and space in this exquisite album by Nubbin, a producer from hollywood. more or less the sound is comparable to what a Dntel/Cardopusher mashup would be, but its not a mashup at all. delicious syncopation + an awesome knack for perfect timing make this album what it is.

breakcore meets ambient +bass

Fuck Buttons - Olympians

tasty little single from Fuck Buttons' Tarot Sport. the epic 11-minute electro-jam gets its own solo with a radio edit, the original, a remix, + a White Hot remix of Rough Steez. i don't know about everybody else but to me it kind of feels like the soundtrack for an epic adventure in a spaceship. just listen and tell me how you feel.

butttons, fuck.

Opilis - Collected Tracks (2004-2009)

an amazing collection of tracks via Opilis, some of which could be appearing on the upcoming Oneiro album to be released in the coming months. this pack of tracks has a great variety of music, highlighted by lo-fi ambient tracks drawing large influence from Boards of Canada. heavier tracks like Optical Therapy mix in well with the lighter sounds of Nuvoux and Sea Cottage Confessor. with a recent relocation to california's bay area we should be seeing some more tracks and an album out of opilis this year.

if you're ambient and you know it clap your hands

Take - Only Mountain

a delicious album that hasn't left my playlist for about two months now, take's Only Mountain has to be one of the best put together albums of 2010. the mellow kick drums in the beginning pave the way perfectly for the more complex second half of the album. worth a listen, or 10.

climbin' up a mountain

Michna - Eggstra EP

just a couple extra tracks from michna's magic monday release, the eggstra EP has two remixes of triple chrome dipped, an elliot lipp remix, and one more original track from michna. enjoy.

full of eggs and a dubstep remix

Onra - Long Distance

so this album is super fly, &i feel like i should be bumpin down compton ave blasting these fuzzy gangster synths and broken drumbeats. a bit different from his 1.0.8 release in the fact that everything has got a bit more soul in it, making for a dope hip-hop beats album with seminal sampling. throw olivier daysoul's voice in there on 'my mind is gone' + you got a banger of an album.

fuzzy gangster synths from a frenchman

✝NO VIRGIN✝ - Downer EP

probably my favortie of the witch house EP's, this one is a little more upbeat and plays with the chopped and screwed rap beats a little better than the rest of them. throw in the fact that the songs all seem to reference drugs + prostitutes, totally makes this album a winner. will somebody tell me why the fuck it is called witch house though? it seems so much closer to drone or, dark ambient chillwave? whatever.

IT'S MADE OF WITCHES

Ikonika - Contact, Love, Want, Have.

heavy broken drum beats, a bunch of spacey 8-bit bleeps, and a sub-line to wreck some shit. this album needs a subwoofer for proper listening techniques and if you have it, this hyperdub release will keep you entranced for weeks.

Baths - Cerulean

this album has already made itself quite apparent after dropping just a couple weeks ago and for a good reason. Baths is a 21 year old producer from california's san fernando valley making beats for the soundtrack to your life. it's almost like dntel crossed up with flylo on half the songs, then the other half are just pure genius original compositions with no comparison. listening to this album will greatly improve your life, trust me.

TOKiMONSTA - Cosmic Intoxication EP

One of the freshest artists on the burgeoning LA beat scene with her first release on the RAMP recording label, TOKiMONSTA fits well in the space-jam vibe of the Brainfeeder crew. This album can be the perfect way to spend a half hour of your afternoon while you float on the soft synths, heavy basslines, classical guitars, and soft bongo beats this album brings together.
